The Third China·Xinjiang International Art Biennial opened in Urumqi on January 10 and will end on February 25.

The biennial displays 260 pieces of work by 143 artists from 11 countries, including China. The exhibits include both easel paintings and imaging installations. An increasing number of technologies are involved in art creation and bring more forms of expression.

The curation of the biennial starts with Xinjiang’s cultural characteristics and forward-looking openness and focuses on the future blueprint for the development of Xinjiang. With "openness," "integration," and "ecology" as its key words, the curation intends to explore, experiment with, and look into Xinjiang’s future cultural and art ecosystems, cultural exchange with foreign countries, and enhancement of the regional cultural connotations through a high-level international dialogue on art.

In addition, a series of cultural salons were hosted on the opening day, where many celebrated artists discussed topics such as how art innovation drives social, economic, and cultural innovation and how culture and art shape the image and create the cultural name card for a city.
